About

I'm Daniel, a software engineer, marathon runner, and someone who believes the best work comes from stubborn curiosity and genuine care. I build things end to end, run long distances for clarity, and study the questions that don't have clean answers.

Background

I spent three years at Samsung Austin Semiconductor, where I built various site-wide internal applications from scratch including a request approval portal that processed requests and saved operational engineers considerable hours, and a material forecasting dashboard powered by multi-regression models that helped teams make smarter inventory decisions. Both were full-stack systems I owned from design through deployment: Vue.js and Node.js on the surface, Python with FastAPI and PostgreSQL underneath.

After Samsung, I joined Billd, a fintech startup in Austin, where I worked on cloud infrastructure migrations across AWS (Lambda, Kinesis, EventBridge, DMS) and designed event-driven pipelines that reduced software operations expenses. It sharpened my instincts for building systems that scale under real constraints.

Running & the Outdoors

Running has become a metaphor of how I think. Some of my clearest ideas have arrived somewhere between mile 18 and mile 22, when the only thing left is forward motion.

If I'm not on the road, I'm usually on a trail. Hiking gives me the same thing running does: a reminder that the view is always earned.

What I Value

I care about craft, collaboration, and doing work that means something. I do my best in environments built on respect and genuine curiosity, where people push each other to grow without pretending they have all the answers. I'd rather build one thing that matters than ship ten things that don't.
